Driver Remanded for Allegedly Defiling Passenger
By Felix Kuyinu
One Mr. Godwin Waheed has been remanded in prison for allegedly kidnaping and defiling his passenger on Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos.
Waheed, 44, was arraigned at the Yaba Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Patrick Nwaka on two counts bordering on unlawful confinement, detention and defilement of his supposed passenger.
Police prosecutor, Thomas Nurideen told the Magistrate that the driver conveyed the victim on October 15 at about 8pm as a passenger in his Toyota Sienna and during the journey, he threatened the victim with a dagger to undress and eventually penetrated her.
Nurudeen stated that Waheed tried to escape from the scene but couldn’t as his vehicle ran out of fuel which resulted to a mob holding him down for police arrest.
He said the offences violate sections 272 and 26 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant’s plea was, however, not taken.
The prosecutor prayed the court to remand the defendant at the correctional centre pending legal advice from the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
Granting the request, Magistrates Nwaka ordered that culprit be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the DPP and then adjourned the case till January 15, 2024, for the DPP’s advice.
