LASEMA Averts Fire Disaster From Leaking Gas Tanker
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency has averted what would have a been a major fire disaster at Omole Area.
A tanker laden with domestic cooking gas experienced a broken valve, resulting in a dangerous discharge of its content into the air.
However, it took the prompt intervention of the men of LASEMA who arrived at the scene to arrest the situation.
According to a statement by the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Osanyintolu, following a distress call received at 13 :11hrs through the agency’s 112/767 toll-free lines, LASEMA activated the Lagos State Emergency Response Plans and arrived the incident scene at 13:20hrs.
It said, “Upon arrival of the Agency’s LRT at the incident scene, it was observed that a gas tanker, registration number unknown, laden to capacity with domestic cooking gas, experienced a broken valve control on motion, thereby resulting in a dangerous discharge of gas into the atmosphere.
During the sensitive recovery operation, the entire leaking Gas Tanker was being blanketed by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, when the Engineers commenced swift, but careful repair works on the broken valve control of the leaking Gas Tanker, while LASEMA coordinated the recovery operation.
No mortality, nor injuries were recorded during the leaking Gas Truck recovery operation.
Status: The damaged valve controls has been safely repaired. The leakage has been sealed completely and the gas tanker has been driven off the incident scene safely.
All secondary incidents have been averted and the road has been re-opened to the public for vehicular activities.”
