Viral Video: Lagos Government Dissociates Self From Faulty Faecal Sludge Vehicle
The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office has dissociated itself from the a Faecal Sludge Vehicle that threw its contents on the road in a viral video being circulated across social media platforms.
A statement by the Head of Public Affairs of the waste water office, Mr. Akerele Kehinde said that the vehicle did not belong to the government and that the incident did not occur in Lagos.
Recall that a video of a sludge vehicle that threw its faecal contents on the road was circulating across media platforms early Wednesday.
According to the statement, a thorough investigation had been carried out by the office and found out that the content in the viral video never happened anywhere in the metropolis.
It reads in part, “We wish to use this medium to clear the air on the video circulating on the Social Media with regard to a Faecal Sludge Vehicle with a Faulty Tank Valve while on duty.
The video had been investigated thoroughly and inferred that the Faecal or Septage Sludge Vehicle in the video clip is not one of the trucks operating Sludge Evacuation in the State, thus the incident in the circulating did not happen anywhere in Lagos State.”
For the avoidance of doubt, the statement said that all Faecal Sludge Vehicles operating in Lagos State are colour coded.
It therefore urged members of the public to disregard the video and its associated narrative.
“This is to asure you that Mr. Governor and the agency is alive to her responsibilities to the dear Lagosians and will not rest on our oars in ensuring that Lagosians get the best they deserve from the state government and all her agencies.
Equally, the office wishes to reiterate its position on the installation of BIO-DIGESTER WASTEWATER Facility as means of treatment and management of wastewater generated in our houses and establishments.
BIO-DIGESTER WASTEWATER Facility is not an approved technology to be deploy anywhere in Lagos State, in this vein the office is calling on all Lagosians; Individuals and Corporate Organizations to stop patronage of this technology. The techology has not passed the minimum standard set by the state to safeguard the waterbody pollution in line with mandate of the office as detailed in the State Environmental Management Law of 2017 Part IX.
The office is hereby calling on all stakeholders in building sector and sister agencies to collaborate with Office in ensuring that our environment are safe and secure for the good of all so as to avoid consumption of contaminated water for our Domestic and Industrial uses.”
The office equally seeks the partnership of the Media Organizations, especially Radio and On-line Media organization operating in the State to stop accepting advert, promo or jingle from the promoter of BIO-DIGESTER WASTEWATER TECHNOLOGY, because the technology in it Current Status is a threat to the Health of Lagosians. As the 4th Realm of the Estate and opinion moulder, you are hereby enjoined to join hands with the State to safegaurd the health of Lagosians.
