LASU Excited By Lagos State Safety Commission’s Audit of Senate Building

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni has reiterated that the Lagos State University Management will continue to work with the Lagos State Safety Commission (LSC) for the safety and wellbeing of the University community.

The VC who was ably represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Adenike Boyo, disclosed this in her address at the one-day training programme organized by the Lagos State University in conjunction with the Lagos State Safety Commission held on Wednesday, 24th May 2023 at Aderemi Makanjuola Lecture Theatre, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.

Prof. Olatunji-Bello appreciated the Director General/Chief Executive Officer, Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, for the prompt attention given to the University’s request with respect to the conduct of safety audit of the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building and also for the donation of safety kits to the University as a demonstration of the Commission’s commitment to the safety of lives and properties.

Speaking further, the Professor of Physiology stated that “…the training shows the commitment of the University Management to implement the recommendations contained in the safety audit report of the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building of the University”.

She also implored participants to give the training their utmost attention and commitment as they are expected to impart the knowledge they have acquired to other colleagues.

The Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel A. Fanu, in his remarks averred that the training programme was put together primarily to teach staff about the safety measures that are of benefit to the institution and the public.

He also appreciated the Lagos State Safety Commission for their efforts in ensuring that the programme holds and implored participants to pay rapt attention to the resource persons and tap from their wealth of experience.

Speaking at the training programme, the Director General/Chief Executive Officer, Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, stated that safety is a collective responsibility and the Lagos State government is very passionate and keen on safeguarding its people and has tasked the Commission to ensure that its goal is to protect the lives and properties of every individual in the state.

Director, Safety, Training, Education and Skills Development (STED), LSC, Mrs. Esther George in her address asserted that safety is not just a priority but also a value to build a culture of sensible risk management. She added that the vision of the Commission is to proactively make safety a lifestyle in Lagos State, a world class city and to maintain the leading change with regards to adopting a safety culture.

The first resource person was Engr. Oluwole Ojetokun, who spoke on two topics namely; “Fire Prevention and Control” and “Electrical Safety: Principles Risks and Effective Management”.

The second resource person and safety consultant, Mr. Adeyinka Adebiyi, spoke on ”Mandate of Safety, Health and Fire Marshals in the Campus; Basic Safety, Health and Hygiene; and Practical Hazards Identification, Control Measures and Reasons for Choosing the Control Measures.”

Lead Consultant, Sofumonde Ltd., Ms. Bolanle Adesan, was the last resource person who spoke on “Positioning Lagos State University for the Global Community through Health and Safety”.

The well attended training which was themed; “Training and Injection of Safety, Health and Fire Marshals in Lagos State University Campuses across the State” had in attendance the University Management, Senior Members of Staff, Officials of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Members of the Centre for Information and Public Relations (CIPR) and Members of the University Multimedia Centre (UMC).

The highlight of the training was the decoration of some senior members of staff as fire marshals by the DG/CEO, Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola and presentation of certificates as well as safety kits to the participants.
