No fewer than 100 widows and elderly ones received cash and food items from the chairman of Ikorodu LG, Hon. Wasiu Adesina.
According to Hon. Adesina, the beneficiaries got N10,000 each, while official cars were also given to each of the councillors, the Vice-Chairman, the Secretary to the Local Government and supervisors to enhance productivity.
The council chairman was represented by his wife, Mrs Abolanle Adesina at the occasion which was also graced by apex leaders; Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, former deputy governor of Lagos State, Basorun Babatunde Tajudeen Rotinwa, former Lagos State Service Commission chairman and a host of others.
Hinting that he has proposed other benefits and welfare packages to all his management staff  which would come in phases, the council boss expressed the need to support his workforce as a means to promote a conducive working environment.
Extending his appreciation to the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and party leaders, Adesina urged capable hands to key into the spirit of giving in this yuletide season.
“We’re embarking on this 2 in1 programme because this administration appreciates the good people of Ikorodu for their support in maintaining the peace and security of Ikorodu at all times.”
Hon, Adesina explained that it is very important to establish and maintain cordial relationships with widows, old people and the less privileged while identifying with the issues and challenges that affect their lives.
According to him, the event is all about extending the goodwill of the administration to the aged and the less privileged in society.
He continued, “In recent times, it has been observed that our widows, aged people and less privileged are faced with a lot of challenges such as abuse, neglect, despise, and violence and mostly suffer from financial hardships and health challenges.”
He noted that the aged people were ill-treated, which has led to frustrations, depression and sometimes suicide cases among them.
