Lack of finance hindering growth of football at grassroots – Suleiman
By Saheed Afolabi
The Secretary of Lagos State Football Coaches Association (LSFCA) and the coach of Brenner Sports FC of Ejigbo, Rasheed Suleiman, has disclosed that lack of finance is the major factor hindering the growth of football at the grassroots.
Sulaiman, who is seeking re-election as secretary of LSFCA in the forthcoming LSFCA election slated for August, promised to work with other executive members to improve football at the grassroots across the state.
He highlighted the achievements of his administration in the first term to include organising annual seminars for coaches as vital to the improvement of players under their tutelage and also enrolling coaches to coaching courses.
He said the association will strive to get sponsors for the coaches’ programmes and grassroots football.
He also noted that many coaches could not get employment, urging the government to at least employ some coaches to primary or secondary schools so that they can develop sports activities as well as to get money to finance their own clubs.
He particularly appealed to the Lagos State Government to provide funds for the coaches association to enable it to run effectively.
He, therefore, hinted that the Oshodi-Isolo-Ejigbo League will soon commence.
