A Chairmanship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ejigbo Local Council Development Area ( ELCDA), Lagos, Hon. Peter Ajayi, has said he is still in the race, saying that he has never thought of stepping down or discuss such intention with anybody.

Ajayi, in a statement by his Campaign Media Director, Damilola Onadeko, said that he did not have any agreement to be Vice Chairman to anyone, adding that it was figment of imagination of the rumour peddlers.

The statement reads ” The attention of Peter Ajayi Campaign Team(PACT) has been drawn to the downright falsehood implying that our Principal and Chairmanship hopeful, Hon. Peter Ajayi has stepped down from the race. According to the scuttlebutt, he was said to have accepted to be Vice Chairman in the forthcoming local elections in Ejigbo Local Council Development Area.

” We write to put the record straight and debunk such notion and the fact that our Principal and Chairmanship hopeful, Hon. Peter Ajayi has never conceived nor transmitted such thought of stepping down to anybody nor reached any agreement to be Vice Chairman to anyone, ab initio.

” The furphy is the figment imagination of some unscrupulous elements and same was hurled in bad faith to cause confusion in the polity.

” Hence, the purported statement, is at best, the personal views of rumour peddlers and not true position of our Principal and chairmanship hopeful, Hon. Peter Ajayi. As a matter of fact, the view is in conflict with the ideals of political participation”.

It added ” The avowed leadership of our party, All Progressives Congress (APC) have stated repeatedly and unequivocally that nobody should be discriminated against by virtue of age, gender, where he comes from, religious affiliation or cultural background. This, we hold in high esteem.

” We believe strongly in the Party’s position and its modus operandi already in place , rather than any artificial encumbrance or impediments, should determine , who goes to the primaries or hoists the party’s flag.

“We therefore ask the members of the public to disregard the news, as it holds no water.

“Our Principal and Chairmanship hopeful, Hon. Peter Ajayi is still very much in the race and he and members of his Campaign Team shall continue to abide by extant guidelines of our great Party, All Progressives Congress and relevant electoral laws”.
