35 year-old man electrocuted in Ejigbo

A 35 year-old Hausa man from Katsina State, Hassan Ibrahim, has been reportedly electrocuted at Aminatu Ilo Street, Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) at about 11:00am on Saturday.

Ibrahim, a petty trader in the community, was reported to have met his misfortune when he was relaxing outside after selling goods to a resident in his shop.

Speaking to our correspondent, the father of the deceased, Mr Yakubu Ibrahim, disclosed that the deceased who has spent 19 years in Lagos is a family man with two wives and five children who are all in his hometown, Katsina.

The Seriki Hausa in the community, Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammad, who described the incident as pathetic, revealed that the misfortune happened as electricity was recently restored within the community.

“When the electric wire was burning him we couldn’t move closer to help him because it involved electricity. All we could do was to watch him in pain, tingling, numbness, and muscle weakness due to internal injuries which we all felt helpless about.

“As the leader of my tribe within this vicinity, the Community Development Association executives together with me made effort to contact Ikeja Electricity Company to switch off their current in order to ease his death which they did immediately but we could not help him survive,” he said.

The Senior Special Assistant on Ethnicity to Executive Chairman of Ejigbo LCDA Chairman who doubles as the Treasurer of the CDA, Hon. Roquib Hamza, disclosed that the electricity issue has been a recurrent case within the community as similar case was recorded about three years ago and recently in neighboring areas.

“Over time, we have paper documentation of our contact with Ikeja Electricity Company on the issue of this connection but when they came the high tension of the connection was lifted higher from others but to be sincere the wire has become a great danger to the community as we continue repairing it from time to time whenever it is faulty.

“For the deceased, we contacted police officers who helped organise the community during the commotion and they issued us a police report for the corpse so that his people can take him back to his home town for burial.”

The deceased father therefore appealed to the government to help empower his family, saying his son who is the breadwinner is dead.
