The concerned Community Development Associations and the landlord whose house was pointed as the cause of the annual flood in a community in Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area have agreed to the solution suggested by the local government authority to solve the challenge once and for all.
Oluyeye Dosumu CDA and Shamura Sunmonu Salako CDA had alleged one Pastor Ajayi, a landlord in the community of building his house to block free flow of water thereby causing flood annually in the community.
To resolve the issue which has generated controversies among the residents, the Local Government authority through the office of the Secretary to the Local Government and Special Adviser on community on Wednesday July 22, summoned the aggrieved parties and the landlord to a parley where it was suggested that the transformer located in the community be removed and re-located to pave way for construction of drains through which water will flow out of the community.
The SLG, Hon. Tahoeed Abiola, who appealed to all parties involved in the mediation to be calm, noted that the solution had earlier been suggested by the local government inspection team who visited the area based on the recommendation the Lagos Ministry of Environment and Urban Renewal on the issue after its assessment of the situation.
Meanwhile, both parties agreed with the government on the solution as they said they would invite Ikeja Electric (IE) for the cost implication to lift the transformer and allow for the drainage to be properly channelled while the local government engineer was mandated to guide the community with the reconstruction and repositioning of the transformer.
Earlier while explaining his position on the issue, Pastor Ajayi presented his letter of approval for the construction of his building from the Lagos State Government to claim his right of building.
He however promised to render assistance to the community to have the issue resolved once the cost of re-positioning the transformer is compiled.
Alhaji K. Y. Shobiye on behalf of the community thanked the local government authority for its intervention to have the issue resolved amicably.
Present at the meeting were Mrs. Adesanya who represented Oluyeye CDA, Alhaji K. Y. Shobiye representing Shamura Sunmonu Salako CDA, Hon. Macarthy, Hon. Yussuf Adesanya, Hon. Ganiu Mejindade, Egnr. Afolabi, Sanitarian Akeem Adeoye and Alhaji Wasiu Aregbe.
