The Chairman of Coalition of Bucknor CDAs, Mr. Toyin Saka has appealed to the residents of the flooded communities in Bucknor area of Ejigbo to be patient with the council chairman, Hon. Monsuru Bello (Obe), disclosing that the chairman’s initial plan to reconstruct the gutters was hindered by the outbreak of coronavirus.

According to him, the council chairman had promised to mend some drainages in the communities to allow free flow of water before the outbreak of Covid-19 which has paralysed some projects and plans.

He noted that despite the fact that the major canal (Fasheun canal) in the Bucknor area has been dredged, so many streets that are not close to the canal still suffer from flooding since their drainages linking the canal are not effective.

He said the structure and current state of the gutters do not allow free flow of water into the canal thereby causing over flooding of the communities.

Saka explained that all the affected CDAs were supposed to be involved in charting a new course in partnership with the local council authority because the council chairman is equally interested but Covid-19 has made it difficult to do anything this year.

He revealed that the major cause of the flood in the affected communities is deliberate channeling of flood through the communities because they are on lower plane.

He said the flood comes from different directions due to nonalignment of the drains, stressing that the major channel in the communities which could have been discharging water faster to the canal is not standard enough to contain the flood.
