The police have arraigned an Indian national, Ramshikor Chaudi, over an alleged fraud to the tune of N22 million at a supermarket in Ikorodu, Lagos.

Chaudi was arraigned at the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court where he was said to have dishonestly obtained goods worth N450,000 and also stole others worth N21.6 million, all valued at N22 million.

The prosecuting counsel, Adegeshin Famuyiwa, alleged that the accused forged bank payments receipts by altering figures, dates and amounts on electronic transfer confirmations to perpetuate the act and said that he had made full payment of the goods, inducing workers at the supermarket to release the items to him.

During the suspect’s trial on Monday, Famuyiwa mentioned that act put up by the defendant on January 2 at HND Supermarket along Shagamu Road, Ikorodu, violating the stipulated laws as enshrined in Sections 314, 287, 361 and 365 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The Presiding Magistrate, Adedeji Ogbe, heard the non guilty plea by the litigant and stated that he will be re-arraigned at the court on February 19.

Ogbe granted bail in the sum of N5 million to Chaudi but ordered two sureties in like sum as part of the conditions to be met for the fulfillment of the bail grant.

The court ordered the accused to be remanded in custody till he fulfills the conditions.
