Yiaga Africa and UK Development Partner to Launch People’s Assembly Initiative in Lagos. This initiative aims to create a bridge between local government and the people, fostering better communication and understanding.

Mrs. Patricia Okosodo, one of the executive members of the People’s Assembly, provided an overview of the initiative. She also gave representatives from different Community Development Associations (CDA) in Ikeja the opportunity to share their views on major challenges.

A representative from one of the CDAs emphasized the need for the government to prioritize the welfare of the youth. They suggested creating job opportunities and ensuring free education. Additionally, they highlighted the importance of taking care of traditional rulers and urged the government to establish health centers in every community, employing people from the community as nurses and doctors.

Another participant, Mr. Okpara, highlighted the issue of bad roads in the communities and called for the government’s attention to address this concern. He also mentioned the need to tackle drug abuse among the youth.

Mr. Sunday expressed his concerns about youth involvement in drug abuse and flooding within the communities, particularly in Anifowoshe. He emphasized the importance of the government addressing these issues and improving drainage systems in the community.

Comrade Patricia, in her role as the present leader of the house, introduced the attendees to the new leader of the People’s Assembly. The meeting provided an opportunity for the community members to voice their concerns and suggestions, contributing to the ongoing efforts to strengthen the relationship between the local government and the people.

Addressing a pressing issue, the CDC chairperson expressed their commitment to working with the People’s Assembly to tackle drug abuse in our communities. They promised to discuss this matter further in their upcoming C.D.C. general meeting.

Mr. Ayotunde Adenuga reassured the people that actions will be taken to achieve the set goals. An awareness campaign on drug abuse among young people is planned for January.
