Prince Jimmy Adetokunbo Yekini Goloba has initiated legal proceedings against the Lagos State Government and other involved parties regarding the appointment of Prince Isa Abiodun Shekoni Faronbi as the traditional ruler of Isolo.

In a suit filed at the Lagos State High Court with case number LD/13362/2025, Yekini Goloba is requesting the court to declare him as the rightful successor to the Isolo throne.

His claim is based on the rotational leadership system among the ruling families in the Isolo Kingdom and the reported endorsement from the Alagbeji Ruling House, which he asserts is next in line to produce the monarch.

The suit names as defendants: Prince Isa Abiodun Shekoni Faronbi, the Governor of Lagos State, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Chieftaincy Committee of Oshodi Isolo Local Government, and the Executive Chairman of Oshodi Isolo Local Council.

Represented by his legal counsel, Professor Olarenwaju Fagbohun SAN, Yekini Goloba is seeking various declarations and injunctions. These include the cancellation of Shekoni Faronbi’s nomination, approval, and installation, as well as an order mandating the state government and its representatives to recognise and install him as the rightful Osolo of Isolo.

In the court documents, Yekini Goloba argues that the Alagbeji Ruling House, to which he belongs, is historically and traditionally next in succession following the passing of the late Oba Kabiru Alani Adelaja Agbabiaka (Adeola Olushi III) in April 2024.

He states that he received strong backing from his ruling house and was duly selected by the Kingmakers through consultations with the Ifa oracle and a transparent internal voting process.

In his sworn affidavit, Yekini Goloba outlines his lineage to all three officially recognised royal families in Isolo — Alagbeji, Okota, and Adeola — asserting that the appointment of Shekoni Faronbi violated customary protocols and took place while a related case was already before the court.

He is also asking the court to order the withdrawal of all official instruments, including the staff of office, from Shekoni Faronbi. In addition, he is seeking N50 million in compensation for the cost of the legal proceedings.
