World Bank Delegation Visits LASTMA

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on [date] played host to a delegation from the World Bank at its headquarters in Oshodi, Lagos.
The visit, led by Mr. Luc Gendre, was part of a fact-finding mission to assess LASTMA’s traffic control strategies and overall management of vehicular movement across the state.
During the engagement, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, provided an in-depth overview of the agency’s operations, highlighting its enforcement protocols and innovative approaches to traffic management.
He emphasized that LASTMA operates in line with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018, ensuring the efficient regulation of traffic within the metropolis.
Bakare-Oki also outlined the role of the agency’s Rescue Team, which works overnight to remove broken-down and accidented vehicles, thereby preventing traffic disruptions during peak periods.
Additionally, he shared key operational statistics from 2024, showcasing LASTMA’s effectiveness in managing vehicular breakdowns.
A key highlight of the discussion was the introduction of LASTMA’s toll-free call center, which enables real-time reporting by motorists and enhances the agency’s responsiveness.
Bakare-Oki further stressed the importance of research and data collation in shaping traffic management policies, underscoring the need for synergy among emergency responders.
The World Bank delegation, which included Mrs. Cecilia Bruno, Mr. Elkins Bello, and Mr. Emmanuel John, commended LASTMA’s proactive initiatives.
They expressed interest in supporting the agency’s efforts to improve traffic management in Lagos, particularly in addressing the challenges posed by rapid urban expansion.
The visit marks a significant step in fostering international collaboration to mitigate traffic congestion and enhance mobility in Lagos. LASTMA reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable traffic solutions that benefit all residents of the state.
