Woman On Trial Over Alleged Assault On Minor

One Esther Peters is facing trial for allegedly abusing a minor in Ikorodu Lagos.

Peters, 25, was arraigned at the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for the alleged act on the four-year-old victim.

The accused is facing a six-count charge of child abuse, assault, occasional harm, attempt to commit murder, abandoning, conspiracy and grievous harm, all which she pleaded not guilty of.

However, the Prosecutor, ASP Aminu Isaac, claimed that the defendant committed the offences on January 25 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Owutu in Ikorodu.

Isaac said that Peters commited assault by flogging the minor with cane leaving him with several body injuries.

He said the defendant also hit the victim’s head on an object which caused his head and other parts of his body swollen.

Isaac mentioned that the offences contravene Sections 135, 172, 173, 249, 411 and 245 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The court Magistrate, Bola Sonuga, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum and then adjourned the case till March 13.
