Woman Faces Prosecution For Bitting Housekeeper

A female suspect is on trial over an alleged act of bitting her 15-year old housekeeper in Shasha area, Lagos.
The accused, Oluchi Okoye, 51, inflicted severe body injury on the victim, as told by the Police Prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, at Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
Iberedem stated that Okoye, a resident of Olukosi Street in Shasha is facing trial on a two-count charge of assault and threat to life.
The Prosecutor also uttered that the defendant committed the offences on July 15, at 8:00 a.m at her residence.
He said, “The defendant bit the housekeeper on her shoulder and inflicted injuries on her body.
“She also threatened to stab the victim with a kitchen knife during the altercation.
“The offences contravened Section 10(a) of the Child’s Right Law of Lagos State, 2015 and Section 56(2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”
The accused pleaded not guilty.
Thereafter, the Presiding Magistrate, Ejiro Kubeinje, granted her bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.
Kubeinje ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and should be residents within the court’s jurisdiction.
In addition, the Magistrate also ordered that the sureties must show proof of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The matter was adjourned till August 28.
