Winners Emerge At Maiden Ijede Chairman’s Cup

Sholumade Football team has clinched the maiden edition of Ijede Chairman’s Cup, a 5-aside football completion held in Ijede, Ikorodu, Lagos.

The eventual winners endured a hard-laboured 1-nill victory over Ojikutu soccer side.

Following their success at the 3-week duration soccer fiesta, Sholumade team were presented N500,000 star prize and a golden trophy which was presented by the competition convener and Executive Chairman, Ijede LCDA, Motunrayo Alogba.

Runners-Up side, Team Ojikutu, which lost the final match held at the Anwar-UL-Islam Primary School in the community, received N300,000 alongside a silver trophy.

Oke- Eletu outfit finished third following a solitary goal victory over Palace Avenue soccer side in the loser’s final. Their reward was N200,000 money prize.

Other recipients include 16-year old Muritala Yusuf of the Palace Avenue team, who was bestowed a football scholarship to Europe for being pronounced Most Valuable Player of the tourney.

Samuel Adekoya of Sholumade team won the award for the Best Goalkeeper of the competition. Tabiti Elisha was pronounced Top Scorer of the competition while Usman Raji won the Man of the Match of the Final Match.

Palm Avenue won the award of Fair Play team.

Alogba commended all participating teams and promised to involve the youths in more sporting activities. According to her, sports creates avenue for love and harmony among people. She also stated that it eradicates criminal acts by the youths which is one of the ways to promote tranquility in the society.

The Chairman said: “I acknowledge the spirit of sportsmanship displayed by the players. This has given me the mindset to improve grassroots sports development and empowerment of the youths.

“The tournament was initiated to promote and discover talents which abound in Ijede, to advance cooperation among youths and promote peace and unity amongst residents.

“This tournament will be sustained and would be made a bigger and better championship.”
