The Chairman of Jakande Estate Unity Cup, Oluwaseun Adekoya aka Seun 007 has revealed the reason for changing the name of the annual football competition from Carnival Cup it used to be known with before to its current name.
Speaking with ECHONEWS, Adekoya noted that competition was usually marred with crisis, irregularities and violence, saying the new executive of the organisation has brought unity and sanity into the competition hence the need for the change of the name.
He said adequate security has been put on ground to prevent any violence that may ensue as all stakeholders have vowed to abide by the rules and regulations guiding the competition.
He said: “It’s a yearly event that brings together all ten coasts in the Estate and unify them.
“The ten coasts are Peace Centre, Rhode Island, East Coast, West Coast, Valley Coast, Junction Base, Quiet Storm, Rainbow Avenue, Aso Rock and South Central. It is formerly known as Carnival Cup but the nomenclature changed last year when the new executive members were voted into office. This led to the change of the name of the competition to JK Estate Unity Cup.
“With that, we were able to bring unity and sanity into the competition with the support of the stakeholders of the ten coasts. We are also seeking sponsors from the Lagos state government and Ejigbo LCDA to build other sport facilities like boxing, long tennis, gymnastics and basketball in our sport complex.”
He however appreciated the effort of the sponsors of the competition and ECHONEWS Newspaper for giving the competition media coverage without charging any fee.
In his words: “We would like to use this medium to show our appreciation to our sponsors such as the honourable chairman of Ejigbo LCDA, Hon. Monsurudeen Oloyede Obe, Hon. Ganiyu Abiodun Johnson, the APC Youth Leader in Ejigbo, Hon. Babajide Ogunmefun and our major stakeholders in the Estate BamBam, Wetem and Ade Sparco. We thank the publisher of ECHONEWS, Hon. Kehinde Bamigbetan and all the staff embers for looking inward to support the development of grassroots sports, we pray God enlarge their coast.”
Also speaking, the major stakeholder in Jakande Estate, Oluwafemi aka BamBam, said: “I am happy that the present executives have built on our great legacy in the development of Jakande Estate. The unity of the community is paramount in anything we do and I am happy seeing the progress of the present executives.”
