Why airlines may delay or cancel your flight, AON explains
Passengers travelling by air may experience flight delays and cancellations in a move to cope with dwindling stocks of aviation jet fuel, says the industry association, Airline Operators Of Nigeria, AON
However, do not panic. The association has assured that efforts are being made to solve the challenge and restore normal flight operations soon.
AON’s spokesman Professor Obiora Okonkwo said in a statement titled, ‘PUBLIC NOTIFICATION ON ACUTE SHORTAGE OF AVIATION FUEL AND FLIGHT DISRUPTIONS’ that the development is a major crisis that will cause delays and disruptions nationwde.
Describing the situation as the “foreseen but unintended consequences of the aviation fuel scarcity, Okonkwo urged members of the public, especially, consumers of air transport services in the country, that the aviation sector has been hit by a major crisis with the acute scarcity of aviation fuel otherwise known as Jet-A1.
” For this reason, there will be major disruptions in scheduled flight operations including cancellations and unnecessary delays across all airports in the country.” he said.
Okonkwo pleaded for the understanding of the travelling public to bear with airlines and their workers as efforts are currently being made to solve the problem.
