The Futsal Lagos is here to stay following the successful exhibition games in Lagos where it was used to orientate and let people know what Futsal football is.
Speaking to ECHONEWS, the executive director of Futsal Lagos, Unwana Etuk described Futsal Lagos as an initiative brought together by WLB Sport Limited to provide the opportunity of playing Futsal football professionally to young lads out there and the also programs outline for the grassroots also.
“Futsal Lagos is an initiative brought together by WLB Sport Limited. It’s a company founded in 2022 to provide the opportunity of playing Futsal in Lagos and subsequently Nigeria.
Etuk added that the main goal of the Futsal football league is to make the league attractive for players to play in Nigeria and earn a living playing in Nigeria.
“We have an intending league coming up in January next year and this is basically a showcase of what the league intends to be.
“Currently, there’s an array of talent been displayed already and we feel that when the league starts, we will be able to harness this talents and we will be able to discover much more talents.
“The next step is the upcoming league which is why we are here, we want a league that players can play this sport Futsal professionally and earn a living from it.
“The kind of support we need to drive from the grassroots is to inculcate it to physical health education curriculum and have it as something that secondary schools play and we are already working on a school program that allows a couple of schools participate in it and programs like that aid in the development of this sport going forward in the right direction.
“Well, the main goal of the league is for players to play here in Nigeria, for many years we have had the situation where players play abroad to try and chase their dreams professionally, we want a situation that players are here and play the Futsal here and earn a living here in Nigeria.
“If we provide a structure like this for the development to grow, I feel that definitely that Nigeria can compete with the best countries in Futsal.”
