The Chairman of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area ( LCDA), Hon. Monsudeen Bello (Obe), said the council’s 2021 budget was drafted based on the needs of the community.
According to him, the interests and the needs of each community in the council area were aggregated during the budget retreat held at Grandpark Hotel Ejigbo.
In a chat with ECHONEWS, Obe disclosed that he titled the budget “Consolidation Budget” as it is meant to continue the execution of various projects within the community.
To him, the few months left to the end of his tenure would not hinder the progressive measures his administration has put in place in satisfying Ejigbo residents.
He emphasised that the budget was made to execute many developmental projects he has commenced but which has not been completed due to the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic.
He noted that the budget retreat was delayed because the council had to restore the council’s damaged buildings during the EndSARS period.
Explaining why it took time to commence the budget process,OBE said the needs of the community is paramount.
He said: “I don’t believe that the seven months of grace we have in the year 2021 will affect the dividend of democracy to the people of Ejigbo because apart from the upcoming election there have been some execution of good agenda from the previous years that are yet to be completed. Even our tractor is presently on the road working to satisfy the request of our people and also our response capacity to distress calls is still active. We don’t run a sketchy budget here, we run the budget based on the demands of the community with the advice of the technocrats.”
Obe said the council will expend resources permitted while the budget is going through the approval process within the limits of the law.
“Since the law permits us to at least still spend some stipend before the passage of the budget, activities such as restoring damaged parts of our building during the EndSARS period and ensuring the redeployment of management officers by the Local Government Service Commission has extended the commencement of budget retreat in Ejigbo LCDA.
He hoped that the Legislative Arm would review the proposed budget and approve as soon as possible so that the council can continue to maintain due process in its operations.
“Thank God that the retreat has been done and the legislative arm will in a couple of days do all the needful. We can assure the people of Ejigbo that the budget will soon be passed into law,” he said.
