We need more motor parks in Ejigbo – NURTW Chairman
By Olushola Okewole
The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) chairman, Isolo-Ejigbo (branch B), Alhaji Bashir Femi Olowu, has appealed to the local council chairman, Hon. Monsuru Bello (Obe) to create more modern motor parks for the Union, saying it needs additional well-constructed parks to operate having been separated from Isolo branch.
As the Chairman of the newly carved out branch which gives Ejigbo autonomy to operate independently from Isolo, Olowu said there are just three parks currently under the branch which include Jakande Gate and Iyana-Ejigbo and Ejigbo Inside.
He noted that the commercial buses pick and drop their passengers on the road since the parks are not well constructed.
He appealed to the government to reconstruct the parks in a modern way in such a way that the buses will have to be far from the main road while picking and dropping their passengers.
Olowu commended the council chairman’s plan to construct modern parks across the council area, appreciating his untiring support for the Union.
He explained that the council chairman tried hard to get the space at Jakande Gate for the construction of a park for the Union but the project could not be realised as the space is now having a fuel station on it.
He also commended the state chairman of the NURTW, Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya (MC Oluomo) for his effort in granting level of freedom to Ejigbo branch and for supporting him to emerge the branch chairman.
Olowu said he is ready to serve to the best of his ability to move Ejigbo forward, saying the progress of Ejigbo has been of great importance to him.
He therefore warned the commercial buses operating in Ejigbo to comply with the government guidelines on transportation as measures to curtail spread of the deadly coronavirus.
He also urged the commuters to always go out with their face masks, emphasising that no passenger would be allowed to board bus and tricycles without face mask.
He appealed to the residents to co-operate with government in fighting against the virus by always complying with all guidelines till the pandemic is finally conquered.
