Delta Queens tactician, Tosan Blankson is delighted to start the Wafu B Champions League qualifiers campaign on a good start after thrashing USFA 3-0 at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, Benin.
The Nigeria champions were solid to grind out a massive result in their debut at the regional qualifiers showpiece in the heart of Edo State.
Speaking to ECHONEWS exclusively, Blankson said he was happy with the win and more happier for the players who he believes the win will be a morale booster to the players and increased their confidence in subsequent games.
The Delta Queens head coach revealed his side were at their best in the second half despite receiving a red card in the 58th minute which he played down.
“Winning a match brings joy to one, WAFU B or any other competitive match, winning is winning. So I tell you am more happy for the girls than myself. Because it has giving them that confidence to believe in themselves more,” he told ECHONEWS exclusively.
“Their performance wasn’t a bad one . But let me tell you, we lack knowledge in the ability of our opponents, so it was difficult for the girls to come out strong in the first half. After the first half we now know what they have in their sleeve so came out strong irrespective of the red card we had in 58th minutes.
“About the red card issue, we will continue to have little short coming in officiating, because decisions are taken in split seconds, and these referees are human. Even where we have VAR we still witness some hard decisions. The referee has taken a decision, and it stands.”
A win for Delta Queens against Beninoise side, Sam Nelly in their next encounter would seal their semifinal berth.
