Vehicle Ownership Certificate: NBA-SPIDEL Set up legal Team To Challenge Govt
The Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest Litigation and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL) has set up a legal team to challenge government’s new policy on vehicle ownership certificate.
Last week, Lagos State government announced the Federal Government’s directive that vehicle owners will now have to do annual ownership renewal and obtain a certificate for it.
However the NBA-SPIDEL had kicked against the policy saying it will defend the rights of the people against it.
In a statement by the Chairman of the group, John Aikpokpo-Martins and made available to Echonews, the body says, “amongst others, NBA-SPIDEL is to defend the interest of the public against oppressive and illegal policies of public authorities, and the overall objective of the NBA to defend the rights of the people, we, the officers of SPIDEL hereby set up this Legal Team to critically examine the legality of the policy and take necessary legal actions, including litigation, to frontally challenge same immediately.
The statement listed the members of the Legal Team to include; Kunle Edun as the Lead Counsel, Francis Ogunbowale..Ikeja branch, Maxwell Opara for Abuja branch, Felix Akpowowo for Warri branch. Adeola Folarin Ikeja branch and Ibrahim Al-Hussein..Gombe branch. Izu Aniag for Enugu branch.
The statement also listed the well-respected Ikeazor Akaraiwe, SAN.l as the team consultant.
