The Chairman, Community Development Committee (CDC), Isolo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Alhaji Fatai Abisiga has given an insight of a looming uncontrollable flood disaster in Ago Palace Way.
Abisiga explained that the manner at which the drainage channels at both sides of the highway are being managed is worrisome; stressing that immediate desilting as well as enlightenment of community residents on waste disposal is necessary.
He cried out following the flood experienced by residents and shop owners at the extreme end of the road recently where the roadside gutter has proved not to be effective in containing the water, making the roads to be flooded and unmotorable.
He said: “If you look through, you’ll notice that the gutter is almost filled to the brim with dirt. My fear is that if the appropriate body doesn’t rise to the task of evacuating the waste, we might have to deal with uncontrollable flood in the nearest future.”
Speaking further, Abisiga reiterated: “As community leaders, we are propelling the advocacy against improper waste disposal by community residents because we realised that most people resort to disposing waste in the flood when it rains and this has adversely contributed to the looming disaster. We hope the government will intervene soon and desilt the gutter to avert the looming crisis.”
