Two Men On Trial For Stealing i-Phones Worth N3m

The Police in Lagos have arraigned two suspects at the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegely stealing two i-Phones worth N3,000,000.

At the court sitting, the first defendant, Damilare Kehinde, 32, stood trial for theft alongside one Collins Okoro, 26, also facing prosecution in the case.

The prosecutor, ASP Rachael Williams, told the court that on May 4, 2024, Kehinde who lives in Igando ordered to purchase two i-phone 15 Pro Max from a phone seller, Oluwasegun Odutayo.

According to Williams, the suspect told the seller to convey the items to Awolowo Way in Ikeja for collection.

The prosecutor added that when the despatch rider who was involved to deliver the items met Kehinde, he handed over the phones to him. The latter, cunningly trying to make a transfer for payment of the phones fled away from the scene. All attempts to reach him proved futile.

Kehinde was later apprehended after the police tracked the phones and arrested the second defendant, Okoro, who bought the phones from him.

Okoro, who lives at Akowonjo is facing trial on one count of acquiring stolen property.

They pleaded not guilty.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 287, 314, 328 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The court, while adjoining the matter till June 28 granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties in like sum.
