A woman, Olabisi Oyebolu, has been nabbed by the Lagos State Police Command for allegely pummelling her neighbour, causing her pregnancy loss.
Oyebolu was brought before Magistate Bola Osunsanmi at the Ikeja High Court on trial for conspiracy and assault.
The 34-year-old businesswoman, who resides at 33 Oluyeye Street, Mafoluku, Oshodi, Lagos commited the offences against the victim, Bunmi Olunlade, on July 26, 2023 at her residence over a fracas that ensued between them.
The Prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court that the litigants had issue over cleaning of the compound they reside. He also said that the accused alongside her siblings ferociously beat up the victim which resulted to her pregnancy loss
The defendant pleaded not guilty.
Akeem said that the offences contravened Sections 173 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Magistrate Osunsanmi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and then adjourned the case till February 22 for mention.
In addition, a pregnant wife has been alleged beaten by her husband, leading to the latter’s arrest and prosecution by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, DSVA.
According to reports, the couple, residents in Mushin area of Lagos had a boisterous argument between them leading to the husband irated and beating up his wife to the point of fainting.
The DSVA hinted that there was a distress call from the neighbours who intervened and rescued the victim, rushing her for medical attention at the hospital.
A statement from the agency partly reads, “In the wake of the recent report of a seven-month pregnant woman who lost her life as a result of domestic violence, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency received yet another distress call from a mandated reporter in the early hours of today (Wednesday) of an alleged case of domestic violence involving another pregnant woman and her husband.
“It was alleged that the expectant mother was physically assaulted by her partner who then proceeded to lock her in their apartment located in the Mushin Area of the state. The alleged physical assault eventually resulted in the pregnant woman losing consciousness and it took the timely intervention of the neighbours who rescued her and rushed her to the General Hospital for medical assistance
“Following the reported incident, the Executive Secretary of DSVA, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, said the office immediately contacted the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command, and police officers from Mushin Police Station were immediately dispatched to the scene of the incident.”
Vivour-Adeniyi disclosed that the suspect has been arrested, while the survivor remains unconscious in the hospital.
Expressing gratitude to the survivor’s neighbors and the incident reporter Vivour-Adeniyi encouraged those facing domestic violence to break the culture of silence and report promptly to the authorities
