The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, for suggesting that President Bola Tinubu is pursuing a “life presidency.”

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Lagos APC Publicity Secretary, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, described el-Rufai’s remark as “mischievous and reckless,” insisting that Tinubu has always been a steadfast advocate of democracy.

Oladejo recalled Tinubu’s role during Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle in the 1990s, particularly his involvement with the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), where he stood against military dictatorship at significant personal risk.

He said it was “laughable and shameful” for el-Rufai to make such an allegation, given Tinubu’s consistent history of defending constitutional rule and resisting tenure elongation bids by previous leaders.

“The President’s fidelity to Nigeria’s Constitution is proven and unquestionable,” Oladejo said, adding that democratic safeguards, such as constitutional term limits and institutional checks, remain intact.
