A trial at the Federal High Court in Lagos has remanded three workers of the Lagos State House of Assembly at the Department of State Security Service, DSS custody.
During the trial on Tuesday, the arrestees – Ibrahim Olanrewaju, Adetu Adekunle and Fatimoh Adetola were accused of assaulting officers of the DSS while on duty at the Assembly complex in Alausa, Ikeja.
The security agency filed in a suit marked FHC/L/273C/2025, dated February 24, 2025, disclosing that the trio, along with others still at large commited cyberstalking by recording and distributing false information on social media to incite unrest and disrupt public order.
In addition, the DSS alleged that the first and third defendants conspired to commit felony by deliberately misdirecting electronic messages to the social media in an attempt to disrepute the agency.
The alleged offences contravene Section 516 of the Criminal Code Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, as well as Sections 27(1)(b), 24(1)(b), 24(c)(i), and 11 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015 (as amended in 2024).
Justice Daniel Osiagor, who presided over the case, called for time to review the charges before the defendants could enter their pleas.
