Teenager Remanded For Stealing Bus

A man, Noheed Morawo, is on trial at the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for an alleged theft of a Toyota Sienna bus.

The Police arraigned the 19-year-old on charges of conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, SP Kehinde Ajayi, who informed Magistate Ejiro Kubeinje at the court that the offences were committed on April 12, 2024, in Mushin area of Lagos, said the defendant obtained the Sienna bus, with registration number: AAA 389 EY on hire purchase on the agreement of paying the money back in instalments.

Ajayi said that Morawo fraudulently converted the proceeds of the commercial bus to his personal use without the consent of the owner.

Furthermore, the prosecutor said that the defendant had since disappeared with the bus, with all efforts to get it back abortive. Ajayi said the offences contravene Sections 287 and 412 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

Magistate Kubeinje granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Kubeinje ordered that sureties must be gainfully employed and one of them must be a blood relation to the defendant. In addition, the magistate ruled that the sureties must provide evidence of tax payment and verification.

She adjourned the case till May 29.
