A 16-year-old is set to be prosecuted for an alleged sexual3 assault on a 13-year -old girl.
The teenager (name withheld) will be brought before the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on December 11 for commencement of trial, as ruled by Magistrate Ejiro Kubeinje.
Kubeinje, at the court on Friday, didn’t take the defendant’s plea. He ordered that the suspect be remanded in Oregun Juvenile Correctional Centre.
He disclosed that the court awaits legal advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP.
Prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, told the court that the accused who resides at Ariwoola Avenue, commited the offence sometime in May at his residence. Iberedem added that the alleged lawbreaker is facing a one-count of defilement.
The Prosecutor also stated that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The section stipulates life imprisonment for any one found guilty of defiling a minor.
