TBS High Court Upholds Bada’s Election, Ends Tenure Dispute
By Daniji Emmanuel
In a landmark ruling, the Lagos State High Court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) Annex in Onikan has affirmed the election of Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada, bringing closure to a long-standing tenure dispute that has unsettled many in the affected local government area.
The conflict centered around who held rightful claim to the office following the July 12th local government elections. Some parties challenged Bada’s victory, raising questions about the legality of her swearing-in and whether her tenure could properly begin. After reviewing evidence, the court declared Bada’s election valid and legitimate.
For many locals, the judgment marks a welcome end to uncertainty. Residents said the delay in resolving the dispute had hampered development and created divisions in the council, making governance difficult. Now, with the dispute settled, there is expectation that the local government will return to normal operations, delivering services and implementing projects without fear of legal interruption.
Supporters of Princess Bada expressed relief. They believe the affirmation will strengthen trust in the electoral process and promote stability. Some community leaders said the ruling reinforces the idea that disputes over leadership must be resolved through lawful channels.
Critics of the past delays argued that stretched legal contests erode confidence in democratic institutions. They called for faster resolution mechanisms for election petitions and warned that postponements of this kind disrupt both administration and public faith.
In her reaction, Princess Bada pledged to focus on healing divisions and getting to work. She told supporters she would use the judgment as a mandate to deliver promises made during her campaign, improve local governance, and ensure the welfare of all residents. She also urged stakeholders and critics alike to join hands for progress.
Legal observers noted that the High Court’s decision could serve as a precedent for future election disputes in Lagos, especially those involving local government contests. They highlighted the importance of clear laws, timely hearings, and the ability of the judiciary to deliver justice without unnecessary delay.
As the community looks ahead, many hope service delivery, development works, and local policies will now proceed unhindered. For Princess Bada, the ruling is not just a legal victory but a chance to show leadership and stability in her renewed mandate.
