BREAKING: Supreme Court Affirms Sanwo-Olu Lagos governor

The Supreme Court has delivered judgment on the appeal filed by Azeez Adediran, the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) against the election of Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the APC as Lagos State governor.

The Apex Court says the Labour Party governorship candidate’s appeal challenging the Appeal Court decision affirming Sanwo-Olu and his deputy lacks merit, and is therefore dismissed on that ground.

In a unanimous decision, the Apex Court panel stresses that acquisition of US citizenship doesn’t disqualify a person seeking to run for governor. It says being a citizen of Nigeria by birth makes one qualified to run.

Hence, the quest by the Labour Party to void the victory of the APC in the Governorship Election in Lagos State fails.

Justice Adamu Jauro prepared the judgment on the PDP appeal and is reading same.

PDP’s appeal also fails. Apex Court, again, upholds Sanwo-Olu’s election as governor of Lagos State.

The Apex Court panel as a parting shot describes the LP appeal in Lagos State a gross abuse of court process.
