After long time of waiting on government to rehabilitate deplorable roads, Ajisegiri Community Development Association (CDA) in Oladipupo Shogunle area of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area (LGA) has taken it upon itself to fix a part of Alhaji Ajani Street by Aina Street which has been in bad condition since 12 years ago.
The association has again called on the state and local governments to complement its efforts by completing the rehabilitation of the road and some others I the community.
Speaking with ECHONEWS, the CDA chairman, Mr. Kehinde Adegboyega, said the community could not repair the road until he took the leadership position of the association last year
He said he thought of raising some funds to repair a portion of the road that has been left damaged since about 12 years ago.
According to him, the earlier efforts by the community in filling the potholes on the road were fruitless due to lack of drainage
Adegboyega said the job was done with the contributions by some residents, saying they have spent about N200,000 on the project.
He stated: “After fruitless efforts to get the government attention to fix the road, I took it upon myself to do it because it has been a dangerous spot for motorists and pedestrians to pass through.
“We wrote letters to the local government with pictures of the bad road. The local government chairman asked the community to choose a project and we chose this road. That was last year.
“We have spent close to N200,000 with the support of individuals in the community. The challenge has been there for 12 years, all efforts by the community to do it were in vain because there was no power until I became the CDA chairman last year.
“We constructed a concrete base floor with iron rods pillars and a block wall with beams to support the wall.

“We want the local government to finished the rehabilitation of the road and drainage because water from main road – Agege Motor road passes through this drainage to the canal. So, it a always a problem for the community to deal with the level of water passing by Alhaji Ajani, Aina and Ajisegiri Streets from G.R.A Ikeja and the Express road into the community.”
