Students’ Association Decries Power Outage In Lagos Campuses

The Lagos Chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has expressed disatisfaction over epileptic power supply in campuses in the state.

NANS, during a press conference held at the state’s College of Health in Yaba on Tuesday, hammered on the necessity of to urgently address the anormaly, stating that the unwanted condition is posing challenges to students in institutions of the state.

The state’s association’s Chairman, Raheem Abdul-Quadri, stated that the infrastructural deficiency in institutions in Epe area of the state, the Lagos State University of Education, LASUED, Yaba College of Technology, YABATECH, and the Lagos State University, LASU, has been experienced for over a decade.

Abdul-Quadri also noted that incident such as cable theft has further compounded the situation.

“LASUSTECH students currently receive only about four hours of electricity daily, despite being placed in Band A, which should guarantee approximately 20 hours of power,” said Abdull-Quadri.

“This situation has severely affected academic activities. We are urging the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, and the Ikeja Electric to resolve this issue promptly.

”The condition has limited the performances of the students and also their daily lives.

“These institutions have increased tuition and utility fees but the students are not receiving the services they are paying for, including access to on-campus facilities.

“We are calling on the government to look into this matter and make corrections to enable a conducive learning environment for the students,” he concluded.
