Stop Giving Money To Touts, Lagos Warns Motorists
Kehinde Adeleye
Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, has issued a stern warning to motorists, urging them to refrain from making illicit payments to touts for illegal parking on bridges and other open spaces across Lagos State.
The directive comes in response to reports of private vehicle owners engaging in unauthorized transactions with street urchins to secure parking privileges in various locations within the metropolis.
Hon. Giwa emphasized the importance of adhering to government-installed road signage and urban infrastructure that clearly indicate “No Parking” zones. Noncompliance with these regulations, he stated, contributes to congestion and disrupts the smooth flow of traffic throughout the city.
Identifying several areas where illegal parking has become a persistent issue, Hon. Giwa cited locations such as Ebute-Ero, Ejalonibu, Adeniji-Adele, Oyingbo, Oworonsoki, Iyana-Ipaja, and Medical Road near Computer Village.
In these areas, vehicles are often parked indiscriminately on bridges and restricted spaces, exacerbating vehicular gridlock and compromising public safety.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, reiterated the Lagos State government’s commitment to enforcing order on the city’s roads.
Emphasizing that the administration will not tolerate unlawful practices, Giwa cautioned that motorists engaging in such activities—including making illicit payments to touts for illegal parking—will be subject to stringent enforcement measures.
The government urges all motorists to abide by established traffic regulations and refrain from supporting those who exploit public spaces for personal gain.
