Standstill On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway After Road Diversion
Vehicular traffic reached the climax on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway due to a broken down luxury bus at Kara Bus Stop.
It was a standstill from the middle of long bridge to Otedola Bridge as motorists also lamented the road diversion at New Garage Bus Stop.
Towards the end of last week, the Lagos State Government announced road diversion to enable the construction firm handling the road complete the remaining six kilometres between Tollgate and Berger Bus Stop.
On Monday, thousands of commuters were stranded due to the high cost of transportation.
Couple with the high fuel pump price, commercial bus operators had since increased the transport fare by 200 per cent, making travel so difficult for commuters.
Our correspondent who monitored the situation observed that the buying and selling of Salah rams at Kara Bus Stop also contributed to the gridlock.
At Kara, the road was narrowed inward Lagos because Muslim faithfuls parked their cars on the road to buy rams.
A stranded commuter who simply identified herself as Jade told our correspondent that he alighted from the bus on the long bridge to trek to Berger.
“This is painful. You can see how I’m sweating on a Monday morning. They have diverted the road and we also learnt that a luxury bus has broken down around Kara,” she said.
A car owner, Mr. Joseph Fayose who left Magboro around 5am told our correspondent via phone call that he was stuck between Kara and New Garage Bus Stop.
Fayose who works on the Island said that a luxury bus broke down near Fagbems filling station inward Lagos and that its effect and road diversion had led to the gridlock on the expressway.
