As the Special Adviser on Community Affairs to the Chairman of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government, Mr. Ade Macathy has disclosed how challenging the task has been and how he was able to carry out the job successfully with the support of his principal and other stakeholders.

According to him, handling different categories of people in the community for four years is a bit difficult but he was able to surmount the challenge with the help of God and the support of the council chairman, Hon. Bolaji Muse-Ariyoh.

Recounting his experience in a chat with ECHONEWS, Macathy said he was able to gather the community members to manage the happenings within the community without allowing issues to degenerate into c

He said he was able to manage the challenges of the existing 64 Community Development Associations (CDAs) in Oshodi-Isolo LG ranging from security, electricity, cleanliness of environment to ensure peace and development.

Regarding the security of the community, he said the security bylaw made it compulsory for residents to comply with the security bill payments.

“Human beings are very difficult to handle and control especially when there is lack of co-operation but, with the help of stated guidelines and regulations, community members are tailored towards one direction to achieve common goals of development.

“On the security bill payment, defaulters were reported to the Community Development Committee (CDC) who informed the local government, the local government then prosecuted the defaulters at the customary court. But since the emergence of the security bylaw, the compliance has been very good though I can’t say that it is 100 percent.”

He explained that he also intervened in issues concerning electricity in the community especially the arbitrary outrageous bills and prepaid meter issues.

He commended the effort of the two Private Sector Participant (PSP) operators – Excellense and TUNAP who are in charge of waste management in Oshodi-Isolo LG for their co-operation in ensuring that waste generated by the community members are well disposed.

He informed that series of meetings have been held to resolve waste tariff issue with the community members.

He commended the authority of Oshodi-Isolo LG for ensuring that the best is done to give the community members good healthcare facility and conducive environment to source for daily living.
