Nigerian music star Adekunle Gold has launched a health-focused initiative to provide free insurance coverage for individuals living with sickle cell disorder. The project, titled “5 Star Care,” was unveiled on Thursday via the artist’s Instagram page in observance of World Sickle Cell Day.

Describing the initiative as deeply personal, Adekunle Gold announced that the programme would begin by offering free healthcare insurance to 1,000 sickle cell patients in Lagos State, aiming to ease the financial burden often associated with managing the condition.

“5 Star Care isn’t just an initiative—it’s a promise,” the singer said in his post. “A promise to make sure that sickle cell warriors are seen, heard, and cared for.”

The initiative is being rolled out under the Adekunle Gold Foundation, in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Health, the Lagos State Health Management Agency, and the Sickle Cell Management Initiatives.

In a video accompanying the announcement, Adekunle Gold, who has previously shared his personal experiences living with sickle cell, emphasized the importance of access to quality healthcare regardless of background or financial status.

> “Our goal is simple: to ease the financial burden of managing sickle cell and help more people get the quality care they deserve without stress,” he said.

The singer also noted that this initial rollout was only the beginning, encouraging eligible individuals to register via the foundation’s official website.

The initiative has been widely praised for its focus on health equity and its potential impact on thousands of Nigerians affected by the chronic blood disorder.
