Shun Crime, Magistrate Nwaka Tells Cifman Pupils
By Felix Kuyinu
Magistrate Patrick Nwaka has urged students to shun criminal activities and remain focused on their educational career in their pursuit of becoming successful individuals in the future.
Magistrate Nwaka made the call on Monday while addressing students of Cifman Senior Secondary School who were on excursion visit at the Yaba Magistrates’ Court.
He stressed to the pupils on the sacrosanct need to always remind themselves the reasons they were sent to school. He noted that the students should have their attention glued to achieving good grades as that will not only steer them to improving in their curricular activities but also bring joy to themselves and to their parents.
He emphasized that the students should not get indulged in any criminal act as that can jeopardize their educational career, noting that necessary prosecution awaits anyone caught.
“I admonish you to stay off crimes as it can hamper your success in life. Anyone caught in such act will face the wrath of the law. Be focused on your studies and career. Don’t mingle with bad friends, study hard and definitely one of you might become a well-known magistrate or lawyer,” he said.
Nwaka also hinted to the tutors to enforce discipline in trying to guide the young ones on a positive path in their academics.
Nwaka said, “This is a good thing that the Cifman College has done. However, I will advise the school and teachers to discipline students all over the nation to help reduce the rate of crime among youths.
“Teach them the whole essence of being educated and enlightened, because the rate of crimes among Nigerian youths is rising and as part of the agents of socialisation, the school also has a big role to play.”
The school’s Head of the Arts Department, Hafis Oduloye, said the excursion was to enable the pupils to witness how the court proceedings are carried out and also to be sensitized on the do’s and don’ts by legal practitioners.
“We brought the students here mainly to expose them to real-life court proceedings, as obtainable in a magistrates’ court, and I know they have learnt a lot today. This exposure will really help them, especially the Arts students aspiring to take Law as their career path,” Oduloye said.
