Seun Kuti, Nigerian musician and youngest son of the late Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has reacted to Korra Obidi’s twerking tribute at his father’s graveside.
Korra, who visited Nigeria over the weekend, had stopped at Fela’s grave where she performed a twerk routine in his honour. The dancer shared the video on Instagram, explaining that her gesture was inspired by Fela’s well known admiration for expressive female dance.
I gave baba an offering. We visited the grave site of Anikulapo Kuti today, and we all know that one thing Fela loved was a woman with gyrating hips. So I decided to twerk for baba, she wrote.
Responding to the video, Seun Kuti praised Korra’s tribute, saying it reflected Fela’s energetic lifestyle and cultural legacy. You guys know what baba likes but you will never give him what he wants. E go better for you my sister, he said.
The video has since stirred mixed reactions across social media, with some supporters describing it as harmless cultural homage, while critics argued that the performance was inappropriate.
