Senator Abiru Hosts Grand Finale of 2nd Mixed Team Table Tennis Championship

The Grand Finale of the 2nd Edition of the Senator Abiru Mixed Team Table Tennis Championships (2.0), organised by the SAIL Empowerment Foundation, came to a successful close yesterday, marking another milestone in promoting youth empowerment through sports.
The championship, co-founded by Senator Tokunbo Abiru and his wife, Mrs Feyisola Abiru, brought together talented young athletes from across Nigeria and Africa, showcasing outstanding skill, passion, and teamwork over several days of competition.
Senator Abiru described the tournament as a celebration of excellence and inclusion, noting that the mixed team format pairing men and women as equal partners reflects the foundation’s commitment to equity, collaboration, and youth development.
“This tournament once again proved that when we create the right opportunities, our youth can thrive and achieve greatness,” Abiru said. “Our goal has always been to use sports as a tool for empowerment, promoting inclusion, teamwork, and excellence.”
He expressed deep appreciation to the athletes, coaches, officials, and partners who made the event a success, particularly recognising Barr. Wahid Enitan Oshodi, Dr. Kweku Tandoh, Mr. Ferdinard Sounou, Dr. Adesoji Tayo, and Mr. Deji Abisola for their commitment and support.
The SAIL Empowerment Foundation continues to focus on empowering young people through technology, innovation, entrepreneurship, and sports, providing platforms that inspire creativity, discipline, and leadership.
Senator Abiru affirmed that plans are already underway to make the next edition of the championship bigger, better, and even more inclusive, reinforcing the Foundation’s mission of building a generation of confident, capable, and collaborative youth.
