A man identified as Monday Odeh has been remanded in prison over an alleged murder of his colleague.
At the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja on Monday, Odeh, accused of killing one Abdullahi Yinusa was arraigned and pronounced to be docked at the Nigerian Correctional Service Facility.
State Prosecuting counsel, Titilayo Adeegbe, told Justice Adenike Coker that Odeh committed the crime on April 4, 2019, in Magodo, Lagos.
Adeegbe said the defendant alongside the deceased who aged 54 were security guards to one Bola Kupoluyi who told the police that the murder act happened after an altercation between them.
There were further revelations that the victim accused the defendant of stealing clothing items belonging to their employer, The latter; expressing disgruntlement over the allegation turned Yinusa on the floor and hit his head and facial parts with a shovel.
The accused, who was dismissed by his employer over the squabble threatened to kill Yinusa. According to Adeegbe, Odeh, still furious over the allegation returned to the house under the guise of moving his belongings at about 7pm the same day and murdered Yinusa. Reports stated the he dumped the corpse at a canal behind the employer’s house and absconded but was latter apprehended in Iwo, Osun State on May 2nd, 2019
The prosecutor said the offence committed contravened Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor prayed the court for a trial date following the defendant’s plea of not guilty.
Consequently, Justice Coker adjourned the case to February 12, 2024.
