The Lagos State Government has acknowledged and commended the protesters in the state for their peaceful demonstrations and the subsequent decision to end their protest after listening to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s (GCFR) address.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu praised the leaders of the protest in Lagos, saying: “Your stoppage of the protest today is a crystal clear affirmation of the fact that you know your collective voice has been heard by the government. What you have done is not only noble but the civilized thing to do.”

As a testament to the Lagos State Government’s unwavering dedication to interacting with the youth, Governor Sanwo-Olu has called for ongoing dialogue and engagement with the protesters, despite their decision to end the demonstrations.

In a bid to ensure that the lines of communication remain open and active, the Governor has directed three key government agencies – the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, the Ministry of Information and Strategy, and the Office of Civic Engagement – to extend their reach and initiate discussions with various stakeholders, including the protest leaders, in order to foster a comprehensive and inclusive dialogue.

Urging the people of Lagos to remain vigilant in the face of potential further attempts to spread misinformation and incite violence, Governor Sanwo-Olu stated, “It is imperative that we all remain cautious and discerning in the face of attempts to divide us through false audio and video content being spread online. Let us not allow ourselves to be swayed by fearmongering, rumors, or calls for violence. That is not the Lagosian way, it is not our identity, and it does not align with our values.”

Commending the citizens of Lagos for their rejection of anarchy and their commitment to maintaining peace and order, Governor Sanwo-Olu stated.

The Governor notes with great pride the roles of our traditional rulers, Civil Society Organisations, Community Leaders, Religious Leaders, Students Leaders and others, who ensured Lagos remained peaceful.

He enjoins all Lagosians to continue their businesses without any fear whatsoever.
