Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has called on civil servants to broaden their understanding of government policies and activities, stressing the need to always speak from a position of knowledge.

He made the call during a virtual session of the Lagos State Public Service Accelerator Programme’s Fireside Chat Series, themed “Experiential Learning with Communication, Courtesy, and Credibility: Humanising Public Institutions.”

Sanwo-Olu described the programme as an excellent platform for continuous learning and encouraged participants to adopt a “Pass-It-On” culture of sharing knowledge within their Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Afolabi Ayantayo, in his remarks, explained that the programme was designed to equip officers with leadership and interpersonal skills that would enable them to resolve conflicts and drive positive change. He added that it also aims to strengthen service delivery by improving communication skills, emotional intelligence, adaptability, and innovation among civil servants.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Establishments and Training, Olubusola Abidakun, disclosed that 100 participants were selected through a rigorous interview process to ensure equal representation of men and women across MDAs.

She noted that since its inception, participants have benefitted from sessions on personal branding, effective communication, workplace relationships, work-life balance, mental health, cyber security, conflict prevention, diplomacy, financial literacy, and the use of artificial intelligence in governance.
