Rotary Club of Ojodu Boosts Pupils’ Health with Solar Powered Sickbay in Ikeja

The Rotary Club of Ojodu, District 9111, recently welcomed District Governor Prince Henry Akinyele and his team on a courtesy visit to commission a fully equipped solar powered sickbay at Agidingbi Primary School, Ikeja. This marks the club’s first major project of the Rotary year.
The reception was led by Club President Martins Nnanna, alongside Secretary and President nominee Johnpaul Chigbo, Assistant Governor Jellily Efedi, Past Assistant Governor and Facilitator Agborpasschal Onyejegbu, and other members.
Also present were the immediate Past President Osi Evans Ikpunukhai, Foundation Chair Austin Okhai, Service Chair Chibuzor Onyilimba, Club Treasurer Chiedozie Umejih, and several others.
The facility is designed to provide prompt care for pupils who feel unwell or sustain minor injuries, ensuring comfort, immediate medical attention, and preventive measures to reduce the spread of illness.
Headmistress Mrs. Oseni Fatimah Olasumbo expressed gratitude to the club for prioritising the health of pupils and investing in sustainable and reliable energy for the facility.
District Governor Akinyele praised the initiative as a bold and life saving intervention, urging the school to maintain the sickbay properly. Club President Nnanna explained that the project reflects Rotary’s commitment to acting as a safety net for children, reassuring both pupils and their families.
As part of the visit, the District Governor chaired a board meeting with the club’s leadership to review ongoing projects, finances, and strategic plans for the year. His delegation included District Governor Elect Rotarian Bukola Bakare, District Governor Designate Rotarian Samuel Ayetutu, Executive District Secretary Rotarian Michael Effiong, Chief of Staff to the DG Past Assistant Governor Bisola Satuyi, and the DG’s Personal Assistant Rotarian Babatunde Olawuyi Abinibi.
The day ended with the donation of food items to Ozanam House, Ikeja, a Catholic facility run by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul that provides charity, welfare, and community support. Gifts were also presented to the District Governor and his team in appreciation of their visit.
The Rotary Club of Ojodu, which gained provisional status in 2002 and was officially chartered on March 8, 2005, began with 26 founding members dedicated to promoting fellowship and impactful community service. Guided by the Rotary motto “Service Above Self,” the club continues to build resilience, adaptability, and strong partnerships to uplift lives in Ojodu and beyond.
