The Rotary Club of Ikeja has officially inaugurated Rotarian Kuburat Lawal as its 58th President during a ceremony held on Sunday at The Airport Hotel, Ikeja.
Lawal, a Director in the Lagos State Public Service, becomes the club’s second female president in its 58-year history. In her acceptance speech, she pledged to advance community service, empower young people, and promote sustainable development throughout her term.
“Every role I have taken on whether as Treasurer, Director, Rotary Foundation Chair, or Class Captainhas been guided by a shared vision to make a meaningful impact,” she stated.
She described the new Rotary Year as an opportunity to strengthen community involvement, support youth empowerment, and foster inclusive development.
Among her priorities are the establishment of a vocational training centre, continued support for maternal and child health, and various youth-focused programs.
She emphasized that the vocational centre will be equipped with tools for trades such as hairdressing, fashion design, electrical work, and catering, reflecting Rotary’s commitment to skill-based empowerment.
In his welcome address, immediate past President Rotarian Kayode Situ highlighted the club’s ongoing projects, particularly at Ikeja Junior High School. He noted that a vocational centre initiated during his term would now be fully equipped under Lawal’s leadership.
Guest speaker Olaniyi Yusuf, Managing Partner at Verraki Partners, urged the club to enhance its impact by setting clear, unified goals similar to its strategy in the fight against polio.
He encouraged Rotary to expand its membership, increase its scale of operations, and focus on the well-being of its members.
District Governor for Rotary District 9111, Rotarian Henry, congratulated Lawal and invited attendees to support the Rotary Foundation or take part in Rotary’s global efforts.
The event concluded with a fundraising segment to support the club’s humanitarian initiatives, with renewed commitments to uphold Rotary’s values of service, leadership, and community transformation.
