Residents in Araromi and Adamo areas in Ikorodu, Lagos, have commended the House of Representatives member in Ikorodu,v Babajimi Benson, over the ongoing road repairs in the communities.
The inhabitants praised the legislator for his efforts in facilitating the exercise after 28 years of neglect.
The project which was officially launched during a ceremony on Thursday, marks a significant milestone in the community. The residents mentioned that the initiative, upon completion, will provide relief to road users and improve vehicular movements in the area.
Ademoriti Maruf, who lives in the area said: “This road has been a major challenge for us. We have been pleading with the political class to come to our aid but received no response until Jimi Benson decided to help us.
“I pray that the exercise reaches successful completion for the benefit of our people. Kudos to Jimi Benson.”
A motorist, Saheed Akinola said that the community needs lots of road rehabilitation. He uttered that other government individuals should come to the aid of the residents as the unwanted situation of dilapidated roads has really affected the community.
A community leader, Qazeem Oyeniran, voiced his optimism about the project. The Chief of Olufuja-Mojoda Araromi, remarked that the realization of the initiative exercise will signify a new beginning for the residents who have suffered during rainy seasons when flooding often trapped them in their homes.
Chief Nurudeen Shiriki, the Baale of Upenyanwa, added that improved road conditions would alleviate fears and difficulties faced by residents during inclement weather.
Benson, of the All Progressives Congress, APC, announced that the 1.3-kilometre project is expected to be completed within three months.
He emphasized the importance of the community showing support to the contractors to ensure timely completion. He added: “I urge you to support this project, which will be completed within three months. Let us remind our youths not to engage in any activity that may hinder the contractors from finishing the work.”
