Report Sexual Offence Act Or Risk 3-Year Jail Term – DSVA Warns

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, DSVA, has urged residents in the state to report cases of sexual offence act to authorities.
DSVA warned that concealing an act of sexual offence is a violation of the law. The agency further informed that anyone caught in the act will be jailed.
Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, Executive Secretary of the agency made this known through during a sensitization program with Community Development Commitee,CDC, in Ojodu.
Vivour-Adeniyi held that eradicating the existence of sexual offence cases is paramount. She noted that such can be realized if an erring individual is reported for prosecution and confined if found guilty.
She said, “In keeping with the DSVA mission to eradicate sexual and gender-based violence, there is need for communication between the authorities and the community.
“The communication process cut across reporting such happenings to the authorities for proper investigation. Concealing a sexual offense is punishable under the law and could warrant a 3 year jail term.
“We urge you participants here and the society at large to speak up as required reporters when such situations occur within their community to ensure justice is served to perpetrators of SGBV crimes.”
Community Engagement Representative, DSVA, Opemipo Ogunse, informed that the agency is partnering with security agencies for prosecution of any lawbreaker.
Ogunse mentioned that the agency has a toll-free line (08000-333-333) where individuals can call to make their reports.
The CDC Chairman, Segun Fayemi, expressed gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the management of the DSVA for taking the lead in the fight against crimes. He promised maximum partnership with the agency alongside other stakeholders in the task of getting rid of the menace in the community.
