The Local Government Service Commission has urged the management of Amuwo-Odofin LG to prioritise the welfare and training of its workers to enhance their performance.
The Commission said this during its visit to the local council last week.
The Commission’s Chairman, Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, and Directors, said the visit was to discuss the welfare of staff which they said will enhance the effectiveness of the local government system, with a focus on promoting a healthy lifestyle for the employees.
The team highlighted the need for a weekly health checkup routine to be organised by the Medical Officer for all the staff members.
They advised that the Tourism Unit should collaborate with the Chieftaincy Department to activate more local heritage programmes.
They also advised that the ICT Department should be encouraged to design a staff training programme on computer and digital skills.
Heads of Departments were equally urged to assign tasks to their subordinates as part of their training.
The Commission also addressed issues such as training sponsored by Lagos State and the Local Government, self-directed training, retirement and exit, as well as career advancement and progression.
Staff members were urged to take responsibility for their own training and to approach their jobs with seriousness.
The Council Chairman, Engr. Dr. Valentine Buraimoh thanked the team led by the Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Kamal Bayewu for its exemplary leadership and consistent supervision and relentless monitoring of the workforce of the commission.
He said the results of the supervision are the effectiveness in service delivery by staff across the 57 Local Government/LCDAs in Lagos State.
He pledged that his administration will further prioritise the staff welfare in local council.
